Pez del Pacífico norte ligeramente moteado (Oncorhynchus keta), de la familia Salmonidae (ver salmón).

El salmón de Alaska se extiende desde los ríos Mackenzie y Lena en el Ártico meridional hasta Japón y el río Rogue (estado de Oregón, EE.UU.) por el sur. Su peso promedia unos 4,5–5,5 kg (10–12 lb). Durante la temporada otoñal de desove nada más de 3.200 km (2.000 mi) remontando el Yukón.
